League optimizers 2020

Dear competitors,

As 2020 is the 10th season of the Optimizer League, you will have the opportunity to re-solve some of the best tasks from previous seasons. The competition begins on January 3rd, and of course, tasks will be partially modified. I hope that you will enjoy it.

General rules

- The competition is open for everyone who is interested

- The tasks will be announced at the beginning of the month, and time period for solving them is ~15 days
- To make the solving of the optimization easier, tasks are prepared as excel files, with formulas for automatic score calculation. Completed tasks should be copied and sent to the editor by an email
- Completed tasks can be sent more than once until the specified deadline elapses and competitors who send completed tasks can see all the results arrived to that point
- Scoring of each task is specifically defined by the rules, and general rankings will be calculated in percentages comparing to the best solution (or solutions) which worth 100 points
- 10 most successful competitors of the round get bonus points from 10 to 1. In case of the same results, the time of sending them is decisive
- 8 best scores during the year are used for calculating general rankings of The Optimizers’ League, which means that the maximum possible number of points is 880.

Uvaženi takmičari,

S obzirom da je 2020. godine 10. sezona Lige optimizatora, imaćete priliku da ponovo rešavate neke od najboljih zadataka iz prethodnih sezona. Takmičenje počinje 3. januara, a podrazumeva se da će zadaci biti delimično izmenjeni. Nadam se da ćete uživati.

INSTRUCTIONS: 1) In the first grid, fill in the standard set of 12 different pentominos which will automatically appear in the second grid (pentominos are to be filled in with the corresponding letters: F, I, L, N, P, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z). Pentominos can be rotated and reflected but they must no overlap or touch each other except diagonally. 2) In the second grid chose a starting field and write in the number 1, following the rules of the Knight in chess, jump around the grid and write in consecutive numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 etc. You can jump only once on an individual field!

CALCULATION: Every 'jump' on a field with a pentomino is worth 6 points and on a empty field -1. A jump on a field with specially marked regions 2x2 is worth 10 points if there is a pentomino on it, meaning -5 if its empty. Maximize your score!
